Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital has been in the business of Rebuilding Lives and Renewing Hope for more than 40 years. Currently a 100-bed rehabilitation hospital, Spalding was the first licensed rehab hospital to operate in Colorado. Spalding's history of caring for individuals in need goes back to 1914 when it was established as a home for impoverished women and children. The Spalding house progressed to offer a new concept of extended care, which led to Spalding's licensure as the first Colorado rehab hospital in 1968.
Rehabilitation is about compensating for deficits, adapting to a new way of life and restoring function to help patients return to the most functional life possible. These principles guide Spalding’s vision to be the premier hos¬pital for all physical rehabilitation needs, with a specialty in neurological services.
Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital is a private hospital and part of the HCA system of Healthcare, with two locations in the greater Denver area, specializing in brain injury, amputee, and stroke rehabilitation. The highly trained rehabilitation team meets daily to progress patients through the controlled stimulation program. The programs success is apparent with 83% of brain injury patients discharging back to their homes compared to the nation at 74%.
With a stated mission of Rebuilding Lives, Renewing Hope, the hospital helps patients achieve maximum independence through individually designed rehabilitation programs.
Also central to the Spalding mission is the ongoing commitment of dedicated staff. Satisfied employees provide better patient care, and Spalding employees scored their workplace very high as a place to work. Spalding’s Employee Satisfaction has ranked in the top quartile of HCA facilities (164 hospitals nationally) for the last several years, and employees regularly receive accolades from patients, reflecting the qualities that make Spalding one of the Best of 2012 Rehab Facilities.
Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital is the only rehabilitation hospital in Colorado to be ac-credited for both inpatient brain injury rehabilitation and general inpatient rehabilitation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The hospital regularly collaborates with the American Heart Association and the Brain Injury Association of Colorado. Spalding is also committed to educating the local community, with many staff members volunteering time to community events and participating in many patient and family support groups.
Spalding's values are reflected in the Spalding C.A.R.E.S. philosophy, which is at the foundation of the facilitys daily care model. The letters of the acronym represent compassion, anticipation of needs, respect, empathy, service.
Patients and their families and caregivers are considered members of the treatment team by Spalding, and help design and implement treatment plans. These stakeholders are educated extensively about the injury or illness that affects the person for whom they are caring. They are also taught skills and exercises that will support the care they provide. They are also informed about community resources that can assist patients after discharge to achieve a more independent lifestyle.
Spalding is proud of its highly integrated team of physicians, therapists, rehabilitation nurses and other specialists. To maintain itself as a facility of excellence, Spalding promotes a strong culture of ongoing education to uphold its evidence-based practice. The facility staff also regularly reviews and implements new technologies that will benefit patients. To support the functional improvements of patients, Spalding utilizes a variety of treatment options such as an outdoor challenge course, a training apartment, and large private rooms with private bathrooms and showers.
Founded on a rich history of providing care to humble patients, Spalding is committed to combining the latest evidence-based research with top medical technology to provide care that continues rebuilding lives and renewing hope far into the future.
